Getting Ready For School: Day 4

This morning I slept in (7:oo pm) which felt  nice but also made me feel like I had so much to do with very little time.  I know you must be asking, “where do you need to be that requires you to be up earlier?” Last night I decided to watch the Olympics instead of putting  the dishes in the dishwasher, and my husband didn’t do any breakfast prep for the kids.  This means that by the time I got up, I had to very quickly take a shower get myself together and do what needed to be done for breakfast in a messy kitchen.  My husband is perfectly capable to do stuff for the kids, but he needed to finish getting ready and get out the door by 7:30.  Most of the cleaning today took place after the kids went to sleep.

After the kids finished eating breakfast I gave them their name writing notebooks.  It is now day 4 and I have figured out what they both needed in regards to practicing their names right now.  Francisco needs to know where each letter needs to go because he has so many letters in his name.  Sofia needs to trace her name, and she needs drawing space.  I accommodated them and name writing happened with no resistance.

Since we were having such a good morning and I still needed to put the baby down for his morning nap, I pulled out the two stick puzzles I bought yesterday .  I gave Sofia the number puzzle and Francisco the letter puzzle.  They were excited to work on them but I could see that putting them in order was not going to be easy for them.  I decided they needed a little help and I wrote out numbers and letters for them on sentence strips.  This made it much easier for them to complete their task and feel successful.  I’m sure after doing these puzzles a couple of times they wont need the help.  I also plan to make popsicle puzzles for words, and skip counting.

I made sure that we got outside for a little while even thought it was super humid outside, which made it the perfect day for water play.  After lunch Sofia and Rafa went down for a nap but today they both napped for a very short time.  Sofia’s bladder woke her up after maybe an hour (she normally naps for at least 2 hours) which meant she was not in a very good mood for at least 30 minutes.  Rafa woke up shortly after her crying, I’m assuming it was his gums.  He has 2 teeth coming in right now and sometimes it puts him in a very irritable and sensitive mood.  We were finally able to do some work in their write and wipe workbooks at around 3:00, they mostly practiced letter writing while Rafa drew with his egg crayons.  Tomorrow we will be reviewing everything we did during the week.
